Up On My Soapbox Again …

Life beyond the TV tray … Supper time, the talking heads are on NBC telling me how good I have it, ABC is reporting “most everyone is dead,” and CBS says “these people are dead right now, they just don’t know it.”  FOX has a hard hitting expose on which Movie Star got out of the limo last night at the awards show sans her underwear. CNN?  Uh huh, don’t even get me started.

Life moves on.

If you are a Baby-Boomer, then you are the generation that America placed all its hopes and dreams on.  You are the generation that was lined up to change things, you are the generation that were supposed to live without war.  This year will mark the fiftieth year since graduating from high-school and thru it all, there has been one constant in my life … this is it …”The mind is a terrible thing and it should be stopped before it kills somebody.”

Current news concerning my old high school says that “13% of the Freshman Class are not attending school.  And that only 34% of Seniors are graduating.  What really bugs me this morning is the simple fact, that things in general, are virtually the same as they were back then speaking from a social standpoint. We have made great strides in the technical/scientific arena, but we are still sitting on the on-ramp of great social change in this country, unfortunately, seldom do people follow a parked car.

America still has race problems, we were at war then, we are at war now, we had people shooting each other in the streets, we had envioromental problems and drug addiction.  Our borders are wide open, we have a due nothing Congress who bows to the whims of lobbyists and big business.

Basically, nothing changed, the generation that was going to take back the establishment, became dues paying members of it instead.

They sold out.

From most standpoints, it appears that the electronic revolution is just about over, our manufacturing processes have all been given away or moved off shore, there is no one in the wings waiting to step up and grab the reigns of this tired old horse.  And that is kind of sad.

In a world of left vs right, man vs woman, democrat vs republican, jew vs christian, North Korean against …. well … just about everyone.   Things have reached a point where it is just plain, outright crazy.  Please believe me, I’ve tried to take a step back and see people as just different from myself not as right or wrong.  Which is just a form of being Politically Correct … Well … we all know what that is, don’t we?  You spread it on your flowers and it makes them grow better.

We all have deficiencies in communication, we are quick to offer an escape from the stresses of everyday life that we’ve been hypnotized to accept as normal.  Here is the bottom line, where the rubber meets the road.  Now we are forced to live with the terroristic threat and the uncertainty of the future desperate course of religious fanatic’s all over the world.  More killing, more unrest, very little hope for the future for a great many.

Thanks for sticking around to the end of my poorly written missive.  Slowly I will climb down from my soapbox and retire, comments section is open, give it a shot.  I hope you enjoy this day and of course your opinion is always welcomed.  As long as it agree’s with mine.

That is the way it works in America boys & girls, just ask any duly elected politician, or the media will explain it to you on any channel tonight at six.  We now release you to your regular scheduled programming.

  1. The majority of Americans get exactly what they deserve. They let others tell them what they think politically and then either vote like they have been misled to do, or don’t vote at all. The failings of a democratic republic lie on the shoulders of its citizens.

  2. Since i quit watching the news,…. i have found that my stress level has dropped, my mental health has improved, and i am much happier.

    • You are so right, I cut back for awhile 100% now I watch it maybe three times a week, every other day or so. It is real bummer anymore I have to admit.

      Thanks for your reply,
