Ghost Chaser

images-1The boogey man paid me a visit last night, I sure hate it when that happens. This time he was especially gnarly and would not leave me alone, I finally gave up on it, and got out of bed, dressed, came into the kitchen and brewed me a pot of coffee. I don’t know what it is about dreams that upset me so much.

I am falling it is a subconscious response to real life stress. This could be as simple as a leg spasm or a leg cramp, man don’t you just hate those! Swinging out of the bed, placing the offending foot on the wall as quickly as you can, PUSHING AS HARD AS IS HUMANELY POSSIBLE and then letting out the slow groan of instant relief.  Man those things hurt, I hate it when I get one of them.

images-1Now if you die in your dreams that is supposed to be insecurity or anxiety in your life. Dying is never a good thing in a dream, whether it is your death or someone else. If you dream about a dead relative, you’ve come to terms with the loss, so I am told. I don’t know if there is any truth to that or not. Being a Viet Nam vet, I had some pretty strong dreams for years, and it certainly didn’t seem to help me deal with it very quickly.

If you find yourself naked in your dream, your are dreading an upcoming event because you feel unprepared, ashamed or vulnerable. (Hey? Don’t smirk, Dr. Phil has made a million bucks off of stuff just like this) I always hate that dream where I am naked, backing up in the dark, into a cold brass door knob!

Now that one is scary.

Every now and then, my wife will have a dream, and for no reason (that I am aware of) she will actually stand up in the bed and then scream! Which is bad for me, because she is having a dream of something or someone chasing her, and when I reach up to grab her and pull her down, that is the EXACT TIME the monster or whatever has caught up with her and grabbed her.images

This is not a good thing.

My absolute favorite has to be the night she woke me up in the middle of the night (4:15 a.m.) and said, “Wake up! Wake up!” and shook me violently about my head and shoulders. So, somewhat confused and very much dazed, I said, “What is it? What is the matter? Good Gawd woman, what is wrong?”

I mean after a very hasty and quick visual search of the room in the dark, produced nothing, everything seemed to be in place, I didn’t smell smoke. I was thoroughly confused as to what the apparent emergency seemed to be.

So naturally I have to ask …. “What in the WORLD is your problem woman?”

She looks at me and sez ….. “We are driving in the desert. You let me out of the bus and then you drive off and leave me! Why you do that?”

So, I mull it over in my mind for a brief second or two, and then I say, “Ah nuts, that’s it? Go back to sleep and I will drive back and pick you up!” Which seemed to work.

  1. I think i would have told her that it was because she kept waking me up in the middle of the night asking me questions.

Nice try, but no Cigar Ed. You are married right?

    Good to hear from you.

  2. My worst dreams are of me going back to work at the railroad. Wakes me up every time.
What can I say? I have no defense your honor.
